Residential Art: Murals for The Whole Child in LA

Painting Hope: Murals Help Bring Light to The Whole Child

Families facing life transitions deserve spaces that inspire hope and belonging. Pulling Paint Murals partnered with The Whole Child to address this need, creating inspiring murals for their transitional housing community in Los Angeles. This community art project brought color and inspiration, fostering a welcoming environment for residents rebuilding their lives.

The Challenge: Creating Art that Resonates

The challenge was to create artwork that resonated deeply with the residents – pieces that would uplift, inspire, and foster a sense of belonging during a challenging period. Pulling Paint Murals worked closely with The Whole Child, learning about their residents and the specific needs of the space. Considerations ranged from the architecture and natural light to the desired emotional impact of the art. This collaborative process was essential to ensuring the murals truly reflected the spirit of the community.

Our Approach: Collaboration and Inspiration

The themes that emerged from these discussions were nature, play, and resilience – universal symbols of hope, growth, and the potential for a brighter future. The art was envisioned to serve as a reminder of strength and the possibilities that lie ahead.

The Murals: A Closer Look

Pulling Paint Murals created three murals for the community: two indoor and one standout outdoor mural.

Outdoor Mural: Blooming Resilience

As a striking focal point, the building's main entrance boasts a large-format Los Angeles mural showcasing the Whole Child's logo. This eye-catching public art piece, with its bold, colorful design, acts as a visual welcome, designed to draw attention and solidify the Whole Child's presence within the local community.

Indoor Mural 1 & 2: Family and Connection

Both of the indoor murals, located in a community gathering space, depicts a stylized tree with strong roots and reaching branches, representing family, growth, and connection. Calming blues and greens were used to create a serene and peaceful atmosphere.

The Impact: Transforming Spaces, Uplifting Lives

While the doors to the transitional housing facility haven't officially opened yet, the impact of the artwork is already palpable. The murals have become a focal point, generating excitement and anticipation within the community. Staff at The Whole Child have shared that residents are eagerly looking forward to moving in and experiencing the art firsthand. There is hope that these murals will provide a sense of comfort, connection, and inspiration for everyone who calls this place home.
